Shaping Sustainable Mediterranean MPAs: Insights from the EFFECTIVE Bow-Tie Workshop in L’Estartit

  • by

Under the framework of the EFFECTIVE Project, marine planners and conservation experts recently gathered in L’Estartit to conduct a targeted Bow-Tie risk assessment aimed at protecting vulnerable Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows. This specialized workshop successfully integrated real-time data from the Catalan Marina Association (ACPET) to assess human and natural pressures across the coves of Cap de Creus. By shifting traditional approaches toward an Ecosystem-Based Management System (EBMS) framework, the team collaboratively brainstormed preventive barriers and actionable mitigation measures. These insights will ultimately establish a replicable co-management roadmap to safeguard Mediterranean blue natural capital while balancing sustainable recreational boating.
